FROM OUR HOTEL LE MIDLAND
Vichy and its highlights
All you have to do to explore the town is leave your car behind, and you can enjoy Vichy on foot, taking in the spa district, the old Vichy district, the circuit around the lake and the 12 must-sees. The 27 signposts highlight natural areas, buildings, resort architecture, the history of a district and personalities.
This Auvergne town with its enchanting heritage is well worth a visit. Make the most of your stay at Le Midland hotel to discover the treasures of tourism in Vichy, on the banks of the Allier!
The Palais des Congrès-OpéraThis jewel of the city's architectural heritage is made up of the former Grand Casino (which became the Palais des Congrès in 1995) and the Opera House modernised by Jean Guilhem de Castelbajac. The original building (Casino-Théâtre), designed by the architect Charles Badger in 1865 at the request of Napoleon III, included a ballroom, a theatre, and gaming and pleasure rooms.
The Hall of SourcesThe glass and cast iron vessel built in 1903 to be in harmony with the Parc des Sources, houses the refreshment rooms of the 5 springs used for the drinking cure: Célestins, Lucas, Hôpital, Chomel and Grande Grille.
Built between 1899 and 1903, the Grand Etablissement ThermalThe building, which was extended in the 1930s, is striking in its neo-Moorish style. The wing of the building facing the Boulevard des États-Unis is now the Centre thermal des Dômes. The Callou thermal baths are just a stone's throw away and are also used for traditional cures.
The Napoleon III ChaletsIn 1863 and 1864, at the request of the Emperor, Swiss and English colonial style chalets were built to accommodate him, his imperial retinue and the Empire's dignitaries.
La Source des Célestins is the natural source of Vichy's most famous water and the only one to be bottled. The spring takes its name from a 15th century religious convent built on the rock, of which only a section of wall remains today. The neo-Louis XVI style spring pavilion was built in 1908. Free tasting.
The et Lac d'Allier beachesThe park, on the banks of the Allier, is an invitation to relax: Napoleon III parks, landscaped banks, dance halls and leisure activities... 1.5 km of walks between the Rotonde and the Célestins beach.
